Church of the Holy Spirit

On the road from the church of St. John the Baptist on Lake Bohinj is the baroque
Church of the Holy Spirit, which was built in the middle of the 18th century on
a gentle rise and surrounded by a wall. The roof of the church has the camelback
form which is characteristic of many 18th century Slovenian churches. The main
door is dated 1743, the bell tower 1744. On the north side of the exterior of
the presbytery is a fresco of St. Christopher which was painted by the painter
Matija Koželj from Kamnik who signed in the lower right hand corner with his monogram
MK 1885. There is a porch in front of the main entrance. The vaults of the presbytery
and of the nave have stucco ornaments at the edges. In the middle of the vault
of the nave is the monogram of the Virgin, in the middle of the presbytery vault
that of Christ. The small round bosses are a distant memory of earlier Gothic
bosses. Dedicatory crosses in the baroque style are painted on the walls of the
nave. On the left lateral altar is a picture of St. Francis Xavier with Koželj's
signature, M. Koželj / 1885, on the right lateral altar there is St. John Nepomuk
with the same painter'ss monogram at the lower right: MK 1885. The pulpit is 18th
century folk art. Of particular interest is the 19th century crystal chandelier
in the nave, whoose shape, size and state of preservation are very rare.
